Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day
April 29th, 2024
Yesterday was Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. As I always do, I made some pinhole photos to mark the day and to submit to the Pinhole Day website.
I like to play around with the unique characteristics of pinholes. This year I decided to try to make an apparent double exposure, but it’s actually a single exposure. I just had my lovely model and friend, Gina, move quickly during the exposure, holding very still before and after the move. The photo above is the most successful of those. The one at the top is in second place. The total exposure was 15 seconds at an ISO of 400.
But the one above here was just a test shot while we were figuring out how this would work. And now both Gina and I are thinking it is the best photo of the lot. This was a 10 second exposure at ISO 400. I can only upload one photo to the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day web gallery. I haven’t decided yet, but I’m leaning strongly to uploading this last one.
In case you are interested, here’s a photo of the camera I used to make these photos. It’s my trusty Panasonic GX8. The best camera I have every owned. The pinhole is a Pinwide commercially made pinhole with a micro 4/3 mount. I don’t think that pinhole is made anymore. I decided to use the GX8 this year instead of my newer Nikon Z7ii because I like the GX8 better, it has easier to understand and use controls, and it just seemed like a better choice for what I was planning to do. Here’s a photo of the GX8 with the pinhole:

More From Cuba
April 22nd, 2024
I’m finishing the editing of the photos I made in Cuba in December.
For much of this workshop the task was simply to see what could be done with each location and model.
So, what can you do with a model and a window. In this case, two windows and two models.
There are options and there are variations on a theme. And sometimes the correct exposure is not the correct exposure.
Thanks to Steve Anchell and to all the lovely models and interesting locations he provided in Havana.
Work in Galleries
April 19th, 2024
Tomorrow is the opening for the annual members’ show at the Springfield Museum of Art. That’s my contribution above featuring models Eden and Carrie, taken at Proparazzi. The Springfield Museum is part of the Smithsonian network. I plan to attend the opening tomorrow evening. Please say hello if you are there too.
Another of my photos is soon to be on exhibit at Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis. The theme of this show is “The Shape of Things.” The exhibit opens on May 18. This is my photo for that show below:
I know it’s been a long time since my last post. A lot has happened including travel and some health issues. I’m getting back on track finally and am going to make an effort to make more frequent posts.
