Echoed Light’s Window

November 16th, 2006

Spending a quiet day in Gainesville, Florida, today. Last night I had dinner with an old friend and caught up on our lives. Tomorrow I’ll drive to Chapel Hill and most likely spend Saturday involved in an Ohio State/Michigan party. Then shoots scheduled for Sunday and Monday. And then back home for Thanksgiving.

This is Echoed Light at the window that provides the light for many of her beautiful self-portraits. She is a very talented, expressive photographer as well as a beautiful model. I hope to be able to work with her again in the future.

Arch Model

November 15th, 2006

When I first walked in to her friend’s house with Echoed Light, I immediately saw this hallway of arches. The photo possibility was obvious. Of course, the model had to be arched. Echoed Light in echoed arches.

The Girl In The Window

November 15th, 2006

The girl in the window. That’s Echoed Light’s other on line identity. So I thought I’d start with this shot of her in the dining room window at her friend’s house. Loved the light and the reflection on the new floor. EL is way ahead of me on editing the images from our shoot and has posted a bunch of them on her deviant art site here: http://echoedlight.deviantart.com/ Of course, she didn’t drive 850 miles yesterday, so she’s had a little more time to look at them than I have. You can also see her images on Model Mayhem here: http://modelmayhem.com/member.php?id=44231 She is a very fine photographer as well as a beautiful woman and talented model. A great combination to work with.

Desert Forms

November 14th, 2006

Here’s my model becoming one with the rocks in a wilderness area outside Albuquerque. She was great to work with out in the desert. She really got what it was I was after and was willing to take the chances to get into the right spots. In fact, she was a little more adventurous with climbing around on the rocks than I was totally comfortable with. But there were no accidents, and once again I managed to get the shots I was after without losing a model in the process.

For those who care about this stuff, this was shot at 18mm with my 18-200 on my D200 Nikon. Shot at f/8. I love my 18-200 because my back doesn’t hurt as much when I go hiking. My 80-200 f/2.8 stays at home where it’s my standby boat anchor now.

Today I drove 850 miles from Little Rock to Gainesville, Florida. Not doing any shooting while I’m in Florida, just visiting friends and family. But it will give me time to edit my work with Echoed Light in Little Rock. Should have something from that shoot for you tomorrow. It was a great time meeting and working with Echoed Light. She is a real treat. More about her when I post some shots from our shoot.

I’ve decided to limit my daily travels on these trips to no more than 700 miles from now on. 850 miles is just too much driving for one day. Those last couple hundred miles seemed very long.

Albuquerque Sand Dunes

November 13th, 2006

Here’s Rose again on a sand dune outside Albuquerque on Saturday. Just finished a great shoot with Echoed Light in Little Rock. Should have some things to post from that in a day or two. Lots of editing to do. These sand dunes were the typical pristine dunes you find near a city. There were several junk cars covered with graffiti and all kinds of litter, including a variety of campaign signs for last week’s election. That was puzzling until I realized they were there to hold targets for target shooting. Still, there were photos to be made, even with all the clutter. The sky was being very cooperative.
I’m off to Florida in the morning. No shoots set up while I’m there, but by the weekend I’ll be going on to the Chapel Hill area in North Carolina where I have two models set to do shoots. And there are more to post from Rose in Albuquerque, not to mention Echoed Light here in Little Rock.

RoseWindow

November 13th, 2006

Rose by the window in her adobe house in Albuquerque. We had a great shoot Saturday. Went to some sand dunes and to a wilderness area as well as doing some shots at her house. I’ll post some more when I get time to edit them. Now I’m in Little Rock and will be shooting again Monday with a great model/photographer here known on deviant art as Echoed Light. Should have something from that to share with you soon too. Sunday was spent driving the nearly 900 miles from Albuquerque to Little Rock. For the couple days before that I didn’t have a connection to make updates. Sorry about that. I’ll do at least one more post before I leave here for Florida.

Hot Rocks

November 9th, 2006

Mindy at Lake Cumberland this summer. She is really working hard here. It was a very hot day and those rocks are in full sunlight. Her backside was cooking while I was shooting this photo. I love working with Mindy because she is really willing to give it her all to get a photo.

I like the relationships between textures, shapes, lines and color in this shot. Of course it doesn’t hurt to have a beautiful model to tie it all together.

Today I’ll be getting to Albuquerque and visiting my photographer friend Pat at his studio. I’ll also be meeting a new model, Rose, and talking about doing a shoot while I’m here.

OK, back to nudes. This is Chastity posing in a wilderness area outside Albuquerque when I last visited there. I’ll be back in Albuquerque tomorrow and hope to do some more shooting while I’m there.

Colorado Sunset

November 8th, 2006

Adding insult to injury, here’s the sunset last night when I was getting gas in Castle Rock. I keep a little point and shoot camera in my pocket so I can shoot snapshots like this when I see something worth saving. Every photo doesn’t have to have a nude woman in it. This was beautiful, but not nearly as spectacular as the sunset the night before in Nebraska. But I was driving on I-80 and it had passed its peak by the time I found a safe place to pull over to take a photo. But this one is nice.

I warned you. Carhenge with no naked women. It’s too bad I couldn’t find a model to take there today. The temperature was in the mid-70s and I had the place all to myself for a good part of the time I was there.

I first visited Carhenge when it was brand new with my best friend, Ken, on a motorcycle trip. We pitched our tent right there at the site and spent the night doing photos. We did some multiple flash time exposures wandering around with Vivitar 283s and lighting each car individually. We shot the sunset and Ken shot the sunrise. I was sleeping, as I always try to be when the sun comes up. That was back when the local authorities were still upset about it being built. They were calling it “a junk yard too close to the road” and other less flattering things. They tried to force the creator to remove it but he resisted long enough for the locals to wake up and realize that for the first time ever, there was a reason for people to come to Alliance, Nebraska. The next time I was through Alliance there was a Carhenge banner hanging from every lamp post in the town. It looks like the initial blush of fame has passed now, but there are a lot more hotels and other businesses in Alliance than there were back in the 80s.

Ken wrote a magazine article about that ride, including the Carhenge stop. As a result I was quoted in a national magazine saying that Carhenge was the best work of art done in the U.S. in the 1980s. I am still willing to stand by that statement. What could be more American than to reproduce an ancient British artifact using junk cars.

This shot isn’t all that great, but it did give me a chance to try out the panorama help feature on my Canon G6. Looks to me like it works pretty well. This is stitched together using the program that came with the camera. It is a combination of 6 images, shot hand held using the stitch assist feature in the camera. You may want to click on the image to see it larger. The full resolution version would print nicely at 40 inches x 10 inches. May have to crank one out when I get back home just to see what it looks like.

I’ll be watching for other chances to use this feature, maybe with a nude included next time.
