Gaea at Lake Cumberland
July 20th, 2007
I think I’ve managed to set a new record for not putting up a new post here. Sorry about that. I just got back last night from to photo trip to Lake Cumberland in Kentucky and Horseshoe Lake in Illinois. I haven’t had time to look through the photos yet, but took a quick glance at the Cumberland shots to make sure they had downloaded without problems and happened to see this one, so I thought I’d share it today.
Lake Cumberland, overall, was a bit of a disappointment. The lake was crowded, so we had a hard time finding places to shoot. Most times when we’d pull into a cove that looked good we’d find a houseboat tied up there, so we’d move on. On top of that, the 1,800 acres of land that have been uncovered since they dropped the lake 50 feet to do repairs on the dam…well, they just aren’t all that pretty. The lake looked a lot better last summer when it was at its normal level. But that’s what happens when you travel to see how things look…sometimes they don’t look all that great. But there are always some photos to be made if you can manage to see them.
On the other hand, Gaea always looks great and she did a fine job of modeling whenever we found a good spot.
Horseshoe Lake was a different story. We saw no one else on the lake the entire time we were out in the boat. We would have done more work there if the motor on our rented boat had been working worth a damn. I have blisters on my hand from pulling the rope trying to get it to start. But I’m sure we got some good photos there and I hope to get to editing them soon. I’m still about 2 months behind on editing, so there’s lots more to come when I get to it.
But, tonight my friend, Dave Rudin, arrives for several days of shooting, so I won’t be getting to that editing for a few more days. Today I’m doing final preparations for the show at S3v3ranc3 gallery in Detroit. The show opens a week from Saturday. Tomorrow Dave and I will make the drive up to Detroit to drop off my prints for the show. I’ll be taking Gary Mitchell’s prints up too. We’ll probably see what sort of trouble we can get into while we are up there.
Hope to see some of you at the opening on July 28 at 9 p.m.
